How did the term "Russian bride" appear?

Almost two decades ago, when online dating began to develop in the west, in the countries of the former Soviet Union (in Russian, Ukraine and Belarus) this new way of starting a relationship and meeting people through the internet was something unbelievable, though interesting and unexplored. In those days only a few Russian ladies could afford a luxury to use Internet.
In the times of Gorbachev the iron curtain, which didn't allow western people to explore Russia, fell down thousands of tourists from America and Europe rushed to the Russian streets of different Russian cities - Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, etc - and were literally astonished by the beauty of Russian girls! Men from the west were wowed by the femininity and sex appeal of Russian women, by their family and traditional values, by their charm and sweetness. This is how the boom of Russian brides began. Western men came to Russian to meet beauties- Russian women and start relationships and families with them. We must say that for both Russian women and foreign men these relationships were exotic. More than 50% of Russian women who were involved in a foreign relationship left Russia and followed their foreign husbands to live with them is their home country.
This is when marriage agencies began to grow rapidly. They were a link, or you can call them a mailing "bridge" between Russian women who had no opportunity to use Internet, and men from the west. The whole process was developing like a snowball and approximately in 1999 there was a strong market of marriage agencies formed. Online matchmaking business became very popular in Russia. Most Russian women don't speak English, or German, or French, that's when the agencies were handy and helped women a lot. Marriage agencies in Russia also deal with renting apartments for foreigners, who come to meet their beautiful Russian brides, and flower delivery service. The staff members know that Russian women are very romantic human beings.
